How an engineering reply is structured.

DaMing engineering note for OEM inquiry. Not a white paper, testimonial, or performance guarantee. Inquiry only — no public price list.

How to read this note. DaMing rewrites inquiry structure into FIXED / OPEN / CHECK so the first engineering reply is useful before a frozen drawing exists. We state a 4-hour engineering reply target — treat it as a target, not a published SLA or KPI statistic. No customer names.

1. Why structure the reply before a drawing exists

Most OEM touch and display projects arrive as a mix of housing photos, competitor modules, half-finished DXF sheets, and a host interface wish-list. Treating any of those as a part number creates late mechanical and FPC surprises. A structured reply separates what is already decided, what can wait, and what the first sample must prove.

This note is for sourcing and mechanical engineers who need a clear first answer without a public catalog millimetre table. It applies to PCAP panels, LCM modules, bonded assemblies, and custom cover fronts — the same Reference sample / Customize options / New project routes used on the Products pages.

2. The three parts of every reply

FIXED

What you already decided

Size band, window opening, host bus, cover material, or a reference sample you want to stay close to.

OPEN

What can wait

Print colour, tail length, controller family, bonding and cables stay open until they affect one another.

CHECK

What the sample must show

The questions the first piece has to answer, written down before anyone treats a photo as a part number.

3. FIXED — decisions that unlock the first envelope

  • Diagonal band and orientation (portrait / landscape / square)
  • Cover outer dimension (OD) or a caliper photo of the housing opening
  • Viewing area (VA) vs LCD active area alignment if a display is involved
  • Host touch bus expectation (I²C / USB / other — confirm) and whether the host can drive the display
  • Environment: gloves, moisture, temperature band, cleaning agents (named when known)
  • Any must-match reference module (Reference sample / Customize options) versus blank-sheet New project

If FIXED is empty, we still reply — but the first answer will list the missing envelope items instead of a construction path.

4. OPEN — items that should stay flexible early

  • Silk-screen colour, logo windows, and decorative print until the cover OD is stable
  • Exact FPC length, fold, and stiffener until battery / antenna keep-outs are known
  • Controller on-tail versus external board until EMI and firmware modes are discussed
  • Air versus optical bonding until optical and thickness budgets are named
  • Cable harness / HDMI-DVI-eDP board options until the host video bridge is confirmed

OPEN does not mean “ignored.” It means we refuse to freeze a detail that will force a tooling change two weeks later.

5. CHECK — what the first sample must prove

Write the acceptance questions before the sample ships. Typical CHECK items:

  • Does the cover OD drop into the housing without interference?
  • Does the FPC exit edge and connector family mate without a rework cable?
  • Do gloves / wet-finger modes behave as agreed on this stack (not a phone demo)?
  • Does bonding (if any) meet the optical and thickness discussion — process claims stay Pending until confirmed?
  • Are print registration and sensor holes within the drawing tolerance you will sign?

6. Four-hour reply target — boundaries

DaMing states a 4-hour engineering reply target during coordination hours (UTC+8). Treat it as a target:

  • It is not a published KPI, uptime claim, or contractual SLA on this site.
  • Complex New project work, missing FIXED inputs, or holiday calendars can stretch the first useful answer.
  • If a web form submission is the first message to the FormSubmit inbox, the recipient may still need to activate the form service before mail flows — keep a parallel mail to the published inquiry addresses when timing is critical.
  • We do not invent millimetre tables, IP ratings, or public MOQ figures to “fill” a fast reply.

7. What to send with the equipment name

  1. Equipment / product name and intended operator environment
  2. FIXED list (even if short) and OPEN list (what can wait)
  3. OD / VA or housing opening photo; reference module photo if Reference sample / Customize options
  4. Touch mode (single / multi / keys-only) and display interface if any
  5. Quantity band for prototype vs volume (commercial — not a public price)
  6. CHECK questions you want the first sample to answer

Send those three lists with the equipment name. We answer with options and open risks — not a cart checkout.

8. How this maps to the site

  • Contact form + RFQ checklist — same FormSubmit path as the live inquiry flow
  • Products gallery status pills — Reference drawing / Pending / Illustrative / Concept
  • Knowledge — glove & wet touch, drawing status, portable / tablet note
  • Routes — Reference sample from photographed module · Customize options on a known envelope · New project from blank sheet
